In the early hours of May the 1st, we drove up to Mt Coot-tha in Brisbane to welcome in the day. The weather was perfectly clear, it wasn't too cold and the ringing bells in the carpark bode well for a good turn up.
The first tunes started tentatively enough, but soon, as our numbers grew, the dancing began. Half-shadowed figures in the early glow.
The morris dancers from around South-East Queensland were gathered, the musicians were fired up and we brought the sun up in grand style. There was something primal and supremely beautiful about watching the rays of the sun come up under the clouds then re-emerge above the band for a "second sunrise". It was fantastic!
And the next generation were there too.
And we all left, happy and renewed for another year's music
